Adopt a Colobus Luciana's troop is composed of 7 colobus monkeys; Two adult males, two adult females, one female sub-adult and two juveniles; male and female. This troop can be seen regularly around the Colobus Trust compound. They maintain a territory of about 1 square Km, which borders with two other colobus troops. Lucianas troop has a big range for a colobus troop, they move a lot more than other troops observed… they seem to know their territory very well and travel around it to feed on preferred food items such as the flower buds of the baobab tree and the flamboyant tree, which gives them a red coloured face after feeding. Cheo is the dominant male and Chunga the dominant female. Chuma, the sub-adult female, frequently plays around with the juveniles, they jump around and bite each other in acts of play. The troop also interact with other species, like sykes… frequently we have observed them playing together in a common playground, full of roots and places to jump!... Written by Alejandra Aponte & Magnus Sandberg conducting research on Colobus angolensis palliatus Eating Habitats. Photos by volunteers Tim & Tracey. Supporting us through adopting one of the troop members will aid us to keep on working for the conservation of these magnificent creatures. Adopting a colobus is also a great gift to give a friend! |
