Vicki is very
young to be in the prestigious position of having an exhibition, and
this recent function, held in Leisure Lodge Hotel, was her 2nd in Kenya.
Painting primarily with pastel and acrylics on elephant dung paper, she
has created some attractive pictures, using the Diani coast as her main
inspiration. Elephant dung paper is a new project at Mwaluganje Elephant
Sanctuary and is currently produced by Hamisi Mdudu, the finished
product is proving very popular and is at the same time raising funds to
support community wildlife conservation.
Vicki has taken a years sabbatical from her teaching and illustration
work in the UK, in order to work at the Colobus Trust. “My first love is
and always has been painting. After completing my Certificate in
Education, I worked on several projects based around using art as a
therapeutic and rehabilitative tool.” Vicki is also strongly drawn to
environmental conservation, and decided to come and assist the Colobus
Trust with the development and implementation of their environmental
education programme. “It has been a fantastic experience, and I shall
continue to raise awareness and support for the Colobus Trust in the
UK.”
Back in England, she intends to continue her work and broaden her
experience; she will definitely be back in Kenya some time next year.
Vicki was also exhibiting Colobus, flower and landscape studies, her
prices are very reasonable, ranging from around 3 to 4000/- upwards,
depending on size, framing etc… The evening proved to be a great success
with many of the paintings being sold, all proceeds from which went
directly to The Trust. If you missed the exhibition but would like
to contact her about her paintings she can be reached at the Colobus
Trust.
