Abandoned Bushbaby Struggles Against Dehydration (February 02)
Luciani Parazzi, a Director of the Colobus Trust, found an infant bushbaby (a galago, a prosimian) near to her house on the ground by a tree.  After trying to find the mother without success, the infant was brought to the Trust in a basket.   Suffering from dehydration, the bushbaby was given fluids every half hour orally, night and day, by volunteers Cerian Thomas and Barry Brogan.  As would be expected, the bushbaby, being nocturnal, became more active at night.

But after 24 hours, the bushbaby was no better.  Through consultation with visiting South African wildlife veterinarians, we continued with rehydration subcutaneously.  Though the vets saw that the organs were failing, we continued to fight but lost the battle at 3 am on the second night.
