De-Snaring Results |
Laying snares is illegal in Kenya. Local people lay snares for
bush meat targeting the small forest antelope called the suni as well as
bush pigs. Because of the heavy resource extraction from
forests and increasing population of the Diani area, this is not
sustainable. Few suni remain and often the traps catch sykes,
vervets and young baboons as they move on the forest floor and are
similar size as the antelope. Colobus in trees are safe from
snares.
