The Colobus Trust hold environmental workshops for the Diani community,
as well as educational workshops for schools and students of all ages.
In Q1 and Q2 2003 alone, the Trust has hosted over 50 schools to the
Colobus Cottage. We provide part- or whole-day programmes, viewing
media, EcoTours, primate-oriented activities and games - free of
charge for all schools. The Trust has lesson and work-plans
available for many different age groups and can work with your group to
provide transportation to and from school and work out the best ways to
easily accommodate your needs.
Meetings have been held by the Trust bringing
together hoteliers, residents and Trust workers to discuss long-term
waste management options in Diani. Lack of effective and
environmentally responsible waste disposal mechanisms encourages the
animals to become dependent upon humans, and so attempts to clean up the
dumps in Diani may alleviate the animal's dependency on hotel grounds.
The Colobus Trust carried out 29 environmental and educational workshops
and hosted over 800 children to the Trust during 2002. During the
first 6 months of 2003, the Trust has held over 50 educational days for
children in Kenyan schools.
